"A Florida Republican has called for BP America's top executive to resign.
Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-Fla.) said he was not going to ask for an apology from Lamar McKay, like Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) did in a Tuesday oil executive hearing on Capitol Hill.
"You should be resigning as chairman of BP America," Stearns said as the nationally televised hearing started to wind down.
Stearns called for McKay’s resignation after he admitted BP had not estimated how much oil was leaking into the Gulf of Mexico for several months. He said the government is now keeping that tally.
Rep. Anh "Joseph" Cao (R-La.) went one step further than Stearns, not so subtly pointing out that in Asian culture the oil crisis would be handled differently.
In samurai days, Cao said, "we’d just give you a knife" and ask you to commit hara kiri."
