Is Deregulation the Holy Grail for Capitalism?

{Frontline photo: Alan Greenspan, Lawrence Summers and Robert Rubin}

Do you think that deregulation is the Holy Grail for capitalism? Do you think that deregulation equates to "free markets"? Have you noticed that an industry advocate will promote "free markets" and "deregulation" while supporting industry subsidies and tax breaks? Have you thought of deregulation as a defacto subsidy?

Whatever your opinon about deregulation, whether it be about the financial or oil and gas or other industries, you might want to consider the PBS piece by Frontline, "The Warning":

"In the midst of the 1990s bull market, one lone regulator warned about derivatives' dangers -- and overnight became the enemy of some of the most powerful people in Washington..."
